MAKING PAPER AT LOT 10

HALLOWEEN IN THE STUDIO

by Robert Thompson on 10/31/10

No costumes here. Just some work in the Studio this morning on more of my constructed pieces for framing. I posted photos yesterday of the printed scrolls and have added more photos today of today's work. I've combined some interesting textured paper - corduroy, grid - and have also burnished some of the paper with a bone folder. More pieces to follow....

There is also a photo of Millie the Labradooble resting on the Studio porch after having played with her ball for more than an hour in the back yard. Mille is the newest member of our Family and has been with us for almost two months now...

We are all headed for a nap now. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

SATURDAY IN THE STUDIO

by Robert Thompson on 10/30/10

I was able to spent several hours in the Studio this afternoon after having breakfast out with Clark and getting our groceries. It was a cool day here in GA - about 65 degrees - and I had all the Studio windows open.

I worked on the framed pieces I plan to take to ICE. For one series of three I used tiny pieces of paper that had been individually made then imprited on the Etching Press using pieces of a date palm frond as a plate. Parts of the date fronds are as thick as wood and create a very nice design. We had brought them home from a trip to Boca Raton years ago - I cut them up and stored them for future use. After printing on the paper, I wrapped the tiny sheets around pieces of bamboo and dried them on a low heat in the oven. They dried in tiny scroll shapes.

I love to create "Journals" using matierals from travels and paper made from materials with a history. The scrolls make a wonderful story when bound togeher.

More tomorrow.....

Corduroy Textured Lamps

by Robert Thompson on 10/19/10

I was able to manage just an hour in the Studio after a late day in the office. I made two lamps using some white paper I'd made this past weekend using bleached wild grass clippings from the mulch mountain at Scharko Farms. I made 80 3 x 5 pieces and couched them onto big pieces of a wide wale corduroy fabric. The result is a wonderfully graphic textured paper. Looking forward to seeing how the lamps dry and light up. I won't know the true results until I put on a coat of varithane. That is when they become translucent. I will post photos when I figure out how add to the blog. It might take a phone call to Intuit....

All for now.....

Saturday In The Studio

by Robert Thompson on 10/16/10

I have had the whole day today to work in the Studio. Clark is in Orlando and I am holding down the fort here with the three Dogs. They have kept me company all day.

The Holidays are coming quickly and even more quickly are some deadlines for me. I will doing the ICE Holiday Show on November 20th & 21st. This is my 4th year and always enjoy the friendly crowd. I am also participating in the ICE Pop UP Shop at the Woodruff Arts Center. I have added links to both in my Announcement Box. Should be a good Holiday Paper Season....

I was able to make 8 lamps - gladiola paper from the trimmings from our neighbors yard - put togher 6 shadow box assemblages - dyed 80 sheets of paper yellow for more lamps - cooked two pots of Cannas from Scharko Farms - + more I can't remember. We are all tired here and are headed for some TV viewing. More to follow....
